Visit of Prof. Dr. Masayuki YAMAUCHI to Oman in September 2011

From September 11 to 18, 2011, UTCMES Director Masayuki Yamauchi traveled to the Sultanate of Oman (Muscat) to give a lecture, conduct research, and hold meetings related to an endowed chair. During his stay in Oman, Prof. Yamanouchi paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Bimani, President of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), and Dr. Mona, Assistant to the President, and exchanged views on how to develop and promote academic and student exchange between the University of Tokyo and SQU.
 They also paid a courtesy visit on Mr. Rawiyah, Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Sultanate of Oman, who oversees the operation of the SQU Endowed Chairs established around the world, to report on the operation of the SQU Endowed Chairs and to exchange views on cooperative relations between Japan and the Sultanate of Oman in the fields of academics and higher education.
 In addition, Dr. Yamauchi paid courtesy visits on Mr. Badr, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Zawahi, Advisor to the King on Foreign Affairs, to explain the outline of this endowed chair and to exchange views on the accumulation of Middle East studies in Japan, the situation in the Middle East, and bilateral relations between the two countries. They also met with Dr. Hinawi, President of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), and visited the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, including Dr. Abdullah Ghonzi, Chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where Dr. Yamauchi gave a lecture on Middle East regional studies in Japan and exchanged views with entrepreneurs.
