(Co-sponsored) Special Meeting “Yemen: What has 10 years of turmoil produced?” (May 11th, 2025)
Special Meeting “Yemen: What has 10 years of turmoil produced?”
Abstract |
In 2011, the long-term government of Saleh was peacefully deposed amid the swell of the “Arab Spring”. The process of Yemen’s transition to national renewal, supported by neighboring countries and the United Nations, was then derailed by clashes between domestic forces and intervention by neighboring countries that took advantage of these clashes, and by 2015, the country was plunged into civil war. Ten years later, many citizens continue to suffer from the destruction of infrastructure and the collapse of administrative structures. Where will Yemen, the “source of the Arab world” with more than 2,000 years of history, go from here? What does the turmoil of the past decade mean for Yemen’s future revival? In this special gathering, we would like to consider the current situation and future of Yemen, which is rarely discussed in Japan./p> |
