Speaker at "5th International Symposium on Academic Writing and Critical Thinking"

On February 16, Director. Oishi, Assistant director. Mieko Thompson, Associate Professor. Diana Kartika, and Project Assistant Professor. Felix Kuhn represented our center at the international symposium "5th International Symposium on Academic Writing and Critical Thinking"held at Nagoya University.

"Revisiting What Makes for Effective Writing Processes Across the Disciplines in Japanese and English" was the theme of the presentation, which focused on the teaching and tutoring of academic writing and how writers can develop critical thinking. The Center also discussed how these learning processes can be effectively facilitated by advanced technologies such as AI.

The Center regularly holds “Communion” to let staff to discuss, debate, and deepen understanding of “teaching academic writing.” The “Communion” are discussions of academic writing based on each staff member's experience and knowledge, while taking into account their own expertise and disciplinary differences in writing in English or Japanese. We hope that the discussions and discoveries made through “Communion” were shared at this symposium.

We will continue to provide our discoveries and knowledge through various events and opportunities in the future.
