Dr. Pier-luc Champagne

Dr. Pier-Luc Champagne was born in Sainte-Anne-de-Sorel, Québec, Canada, in 1987. He received his Honours BSc degree in Chemistry from Bishop's University, Lennoxville, Canada in 2012. He then worked for approximately three years in the industry after which he moved to Calgary (Canada), where he obtained his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Calgary in 2019 under the guidance of Prof. Chang-Chun Ling. His work, summarized in his thesis entitled 'Chemical Modifications of Cyclodextrins for Ion Conduction, Sensing and Metal Sequestration', mainly focused on the development of novel functional self-assembling cyclodextrin-based materials. Later that year, he joined the Emergent Soft Matter Function research group at Riken under the supervision of Prof. Takuzo Aida. In 2020, Dr. Champagne was awarded the JSPS postdoctoral fellowship, which he now holds at the University of Tokyo, under the guidance of Prof. Takuzo Aida in the research group of Prof. Yoshimitsu Itoh, where he focuses on the development of novel functional soft matter materials.
