Lab Overview

Laboratory of Biomaterial Physics is a laboratory in Department of Biomaterial Sciences, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, The University of Tokyo. Our research spans all physical properties of wood and other biomass materials from basic research to applied research.

Specifically, we are interested in study areas such as wood structures, wood anatomy, wood drying, wood processing, wood preserving, heat treatment of wood, relation between amenity and wood, wood physiology, etc.

In recent years, we have accepted many international students and researchers. Many diverse people are working together in the laboratory. In the area of wood drying, the laboratory has close relationship with UBC. Some members have studied in UBC as a post-doctoral researchers or a visiting scholar.

Our goal is to develop systematic utilization of wood and other biomass resources to solve the problems of global environment, energy issues, and living environment of human beings.
